Sumptuous, fragrance double white blooms.

Philadelphus Snowflake makes a wonderful addtion to any garden with its abundance of highly scented double white blooms from May through July which smother the cascading stems. The delicious fragrance give this low maintenance shrub its common name of the mock-orange.

Suitable for growing in beds and borders or pots and containers, wherever you choose to plant it - make sure its somewhere you can enjoy its gorgeous fragrance.

Plant in full sun or partial shade. Prune to shape after flowering to ensure a spectacle of blooms the following year.

Supplied as 1 x 3ltr shrub

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Layer upon layer of petals

Fully double flowers smother the cascading stems from May to July, every cluster packed with small white petals far fuller than a wild mock orange.

Perfume by the path

Set it beside a gate, path or open window and the sweet orange blossom scent reaches you every time you pass in early summer.

Hardy across the UK

With an RHS hardiness rating of H6 it stands winters down to about minus 20, reliable in northern and exposed gardens alike.

About This Plant

Mock oranges have been cottage garden staples since Victorian times, and Snowflake carries that tradition with unusual generosity of bloom. Out of season it settles into a quieter role, its dark green leaves making a calm backdrop for summer perennials before dropping in autumn to let low winter light through to the border.

Pruning is the one job to get right. Cut flowered stems back to a strong pair of buds as soon as the display finishes, and take one or two of the oldest branches to the base every few years to keep new wood coming. A spring mulch of garden compost keeps the roots cool and fed.
