The perfect tree for a smaller garden.

We love this Prunus - perfect for smaller gardens and container gardening. Grafted onto dwarfing rootstock to ensure it stays nice and compact.

Autumnalis Rosea flowers over a long period from November through to March, bearing dark pink buds that open to pale pink, semi-double blooms.

The lovely green foliage puts on a stunning display in Autumn too, turning fiery shades of yellow, orange and red.

After flowering, inedible fruits can appear which are loved by the birds.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Blooms through winter

Pale pink semi-double flowers open in mild spells from late autumn to early spring, colouring the garden when little else flowers.

Fiery autumn leaves

Before the flowers arrive, the green foliage turns fiery shades of orange and red, closing the growing year with warm colour.

Berries for birds

Small inedible fruits follow the blossom and draw garden birds, adding quiet wildlife value to a compact ornamental tree.

About This Plant

This winter-flowering cherry descends from the Higan cherries of Japan and reached British gardens early in the twentieth century. Grafted onto a dwarfing rootstock, it keeps a compact, well-behaved frame, spreading its blossom into a series of gentle flushes across a naturally shrubby ornamental tree.

Very little pruning is needed. Should you want to shape it, cut straight after the last flowers fade so next season's buds have time to form. A spring mulch conserves moisture, and shelter from harsh weather protects the delicate blossom from wind and driving rain.
