Wow what a wonderful heady scent from this R.H.S award winning variety, with evergreen glossy leaves on this twining climber.
The deep green elongated leaves reflect the light around itself and its white starry cluster blooms flowering in summer make a real visual impact and welcoming scent for a trellis or pergola over the front door.
Trachelospermum require a sheltered site away from cold winds in full sun and free draining soil.

Prune annually in spring by removing thin or crowded stems or renovate by chopping down all of its stems by 2 thirds which will encourage new shoots to arise from the base. Top dress with a feed.

Choose your size. A single established 3 litre plant on a 3 cane tripod, or a pair of them, which is enough to frame a doorway with one either side or to clothe a longer run of trellis.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

RHS award winner

Star jasmine holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit, recognition of a climber that flowers freely and keeps its leaves through the year.

Scent over a doorway

White pinwheel flowers release a sweet, heady fragrance in summer that carries across a porch or pergola, strongest in still evening air.

Green wall all year

The glossy dark leaves stay put through winter, turning bronze in cold spells, so a trellis or fence keeps its cover when other climbers go bare.

About This Plant

Star jasmine comes from the woodland edges of Japan, Korea, southern China and Vietnam, where it climbs by twining rather than clinging. Despite the common name it belongs to the dogbane family, not the true jasmines, though the scent invites the confusion.

The elongated leaves catch and bounce light around a shaded corner, and the summer flowers follow on established stems. Prune in spring, thinning crowded or spindly growth, or cut hard back by two thirds to force fresh shoots from the base. A top dressing of feed sets it up for the season.
