Winter colour and fragrance!

Viburnum x bodnantense Charles Lamont is a must-have shrub to add colour and fragrance to the Winter Garden.

Fully hardy and low maintenance, this deciduous shrub bears clusters of sweetly scented flowers in shades from light to deep pink from November through to March.

Flowers are born on bare stems and provide a vital source of nectar to Winter Pollinators.

Vibrunum Charles Lamont holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit and its easy to see why it has been granted this accolade!

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Holds an RHS award

Carries the RHS Award of Garden Merit, a mark that it performs reliably in British gardens and keeps its health without fuss.

Scent on cold air

The sweet fragrance carries well on still winter air, so a spot beside a path or doorway lets you catch it in passing.

Nectar in the cold

Flowers open on bare winter stems when little else blooms, giving early bees and other insects a rare source of nectar.

About This Plant

This shrub belongs to the bodnantense group, a cross of two Asian viburnums first raised at Bodnant Garden in Wales during the 1930s. Charles Lamont itself was selected at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and named for an assistant curator there, and its pink carries a deeper tone than the older Dawn.

Growth is deciduous, so bare winter stems hold the flower clusters before leaves appear, and the foliage takes on reddish tints as autumn closes. Give it a sheltered site to protect the early blooms from hard frost, and prune only lightly once flowering finishes to keep the branches open.
