Evergreen with deep glossy leaves and covered in blue thimble sized blooms in spring.

A great low growing mounding shrub for ground covering. Its evergreen glossy foliage is held on green stems make a dense matt of foliage held over the soil keeping weeds at bay too.

In spring April -May this plant will flower profusely with blue thimble shaped and sized flowers which are loved by pollinating insects too.

This award winning shrubs easy to care for too and simply prune after flowering removing any unwanted or damaged branches back to a good bud. - I find shears work well on this variety too!

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Holds an RHS award

Carries the RHS Award of Garden Merit, a mark reserved for plants that perform dependably year after year in British gardens.

Ground cover for banks

Spreads into a low, mounded mat of glossy leaves that clothes banks and slopes, covering bare soil and keeping weeds down.

Early food for bees

The light blue spring flowers pull in bees and other pollinators, giving an early food source held low to the ground.

About This Plant

Creeping blue blossom, to give it its common name, grows wild across the western United States and hugs the ground by nature. It builds a low mound of arching stems set with small, glossy mid-green leaves, spreading much wider than it rises and knitting quickly into a solid green sheet.

It suits a bank or the front edge of a bed where it can run outwards. A light trim after the flowers fade keeps it neat, and shears work as well as secateurs across the leafy surface. Cutting only into younger growth avoids the bare patches that old wood leaves behind.
